The Challenge
Regulatory requirements mandated that every rule decision be explainable and independently auditable — ruling out most commercial firewall appliances, whose rule engines are proprietary and closed. The operator also needed segmentation fine-grained enough to isolate critical infrastructure traffic from general subscriber traffic without added latency.
The Solution
AftPak built a custom rule engine with fully transparent, version-controlled rule logic, deployed alongside zero-trust micro-segmentation across the backbone's core and edge nodes. Every rule change and traffic decision is logged to an immutable audit trail reviewable by the operator's own compliance team, independent of AftPak.
